Independent hairdresser Fusion Hair and Beauty, which has salons at Westwood Cross and Herne Bay, has been selected to style the models’ hair for this year’s prestigious London Fashion Week.

Hair styles created by Fusion’s Artistic Team will be seen on the runways as the country’s top designers show off their Spring/Summer 2011 collections in a fast-paced series of fashion shows, beginning on Friday, September 17. The team will only be told half an hour before each show how the designers want the models’ hair styled.

London Fashion Week showcases iconic British designers, such as Paul Smith and Vivienne Westwood, alongside emerging cutting edge designers. Images of the models at the catwalk shows will be seen around the world in magazines, on television and online.

Rebecca Place, who founded Fusion nine years ago with her sister Emma, said the nine-strong Artistic Team is very excited to be working at London Fashion Week.

She said: “All the eyes will be on those models, to see what they’re wearing, and their make-up and hair. Their look will influence what we’ll be wearing and how we’ll be styling our hair next spring and summer. I am incredibly proud of our team and I know they will do well.

“The Fusion Artistic Team, headed by Sarah Horswell, work as stylists in our two salons. Once a year Sarah selects a team to go off and style hair for special events such as fashion shows, launches and in nightclubs. And that’s how they’ve built up a reputation and were invited to do London Fashion Week.

“The other day they were working on a yacht moored in the Thames for a swimwear fashion shoot and were very excited to meet actor Colin Farrell. People think it’s all glamour, but backstage the team work under intense pressure and often in a confined space, with designers screaming orders at everyone.

“They’re a loyal team and they deserve this accolade, they work so hard. It’s great kudos for Fusion too. I only wish I could be with the girls for the shows, even just to hand over the hair pins, but I will be on honeymoon at the time and will miss it all.”

The members of the Artistic Team are: Rebecca Place, Sarah Horswell, Kirsty Sykes, Sandra Stamatov, Charlie King, Kelly Savage, Sian Page, Maddie Goddard and Chris Wise.

Fusion styled the hair for last autumn’s successful BBC Children in Need fashion show at Westwood Cross, hosted by G Casino which raised £1,732 for the charity. Fusion is one of only 12 L’Oreal Professionel Image Salons in the country and the only salon in the south east, outside London, offering the complete L’Oreal Professionel service ranging from colour to smoothing and from treatments to styling.
