Big-hearted shoppers at Westwood Cross shopping and leisure centre, and other generous members of the public, helped boost the centre’s Guide Dog for the Blind charity appeal by giving hundreds of pounds in donations in just one day.

Westwood Cross marketing manager Tracie Stevens wore a blindfold while local DJ Johnny Lewis, dressed up as a giant guide dog and led her round the centre and the streets of Broadstairs, Margate and Thanet. The pair, who used different types of transport to get about and meet people, raised a total of £1,007.

Westwood Cross marketing manager Tracie Stevens, said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to all the people in Thanet who gave so generously and were so kind to us on what was a hot and challenging day.

“Last year we raised enough money to buy a lovely golden retriever guide dog puppy, Doris (below) and now we’re well on our way to buying a second guide dog.”
