Community Hub: Westwood Cross is proud to support the community by providing fundraising opportunities for charities, community promotions and educational surveys, all free of charge. Our Community Hub, adjacent to Next and facing on to a main thoroughfare from the centre’s car park, is an ideal shelter where you can talk to people coming into the centre from the car park. To find out more and to book the Westwood Cross Community Hub, please contact the shopping centre management team tel: 01843 867273.
British Heart Foundation Collection: Westwood Cross is joining the nation on a campaign to collect for the British Heart foundation. If you want to make a donation to this worthy cause then bring your donation of good quality clothing, shoes, handbags, accessories, books, DC's, DVD's, toys and/or bric-a-brac to the clearly marked drop point between the 1st and the 15th September 2010. The drop point will be the community hub between Next and WH Smith. Thank you for your support.
Supporting the Arts: Land Securities, which owns and manages Westwood Cross, supports the The Create-a-Quest arts scheme, devised by The Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts. Art by a group of Margate children is on public display at Westwood Cross, as part of a major national arts project.
Battery Recycling: New regulations on the recycling of batteries were introduced this year. The Batteries Regulations aim to significantly increase UK collection and recycling of used portable batteries from the current rate of about 3% to 25% by 2012, rising to at least 45% in 2016. In response to this Westwood Cross Shopping centre have placed a collection bin inside their Management Suite at the bottom of the stairs.
Coathanger Recycling: Westwood Cross are now offering free coat hangers to our shoppers through our recycling initiative. Hangers can be located on the coat rack positioned between Marks & Spencer and Topshop.
General Recycling: Westwood Cross Shopping Centre is also proud to be doing it's share in caring for the environment through it's recycling strategies.
In 2009 Westwood Cross recycled 45% of all it's waste, including 220 tons of cardboard, reducing waste to Landfill by 120 tons. Our target is to recycle 100% of all waste by 2012.
